Author Interview With Jodie Pierce

Today we will delve more into the mind of Jodie Pierce. A talented author of many Vampire novels & some shorts....look back over the past weeks blogs to learn more about Jodie and her books by searching the tag Jodie Pierce....

Let's jump right in, shall we?!




Tell me a bit about yourself: 
I am 37 and live with my hubby in Cleveland, Ohio. I have had a fascination with vampires since I was a child but didn’t start writing about then until I read an Anne Rice book one day. I was an exchange student in Brasil so you will find some of that in my stories. I enjoy research so many places, foods, clothes, etc are true in my stories. I currently have eight books published.



What type of genre do you write? 
Paranormal.

What genre to you personally read? 
Paranormal.

Tell me about your latest? 
The Vampire Queen is once again ruling her subjects only this time it is a school for the ‘different’ children in Scotland. A school full of vampires, witches, warlocks, elves and fairies, one that is feared and hated by all who attend. A new group of witches and warlocks show up to her gates and cause all kinds of havoc within the school. Vampires and witches are at odds and only a few can see the survival of the school. An ancient lover and the Queen are reunited but at what costs? A new, as well as an old lover unite to attempt to take the Queen off her throne. Will it work? Will the Queen maintain her horrendous rule over the students? Can the spells woven work and change history? All will be told in the end.

What sparked your passion for books and the art of a good story?  My parents always read. Mom was a Librarian and Dad read at least a book a day so I started reading while being grounded and loved it.

Is there a particular book that changed or affected your life in a big way?  I can’t remember the exact book but it was an Anne Rice book. Christine Feehan lead me into my erotic side too.

What was the seed of inspiration for your latest book? I already had books 1 & 2 and decided I wanted to be able to say I had a trilogy. I decided to close up some things from the first two books and the idea for the book came to me in a dream.

What has been your best moment as a writer?  The day I got that email that said they wanted to publish my first story.

Who is your author idol?  Anne Rice!

Do you see yourself in any of your characters? No but I write other people around me into my characters.

Do you feel like your dream has come true or is there much more to do? There’s always more to do. More to write...LOL!

What does your workspace look like? I work, sitting on my recliner with my computer on my lap. My table next to my chair is loaded with papers, notes and Luna bar wrappers.

What do you do when you’re not writing? I enjoy watching tv with hubby, getting coffee or a bite to eat out, spend time with my parents.

What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer? Persistance but most writers/artists aren’t sane.

Did you have a moment when you realized you were meant to be a writer? I just always knew since middle school. I loved to write even then.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors? Keep trying. Go for your dreams. You only fail if you give up.

Tell us about your current release and who would be your favorite character?

My favorite character is the main character, The Vampire Queen. She is at first a scared young woman who has to relearn everything about herself that she once knew. After that, she becomes sassy, seductive, impulsive, sometimes arrogant, petulant yet ruthless and looking to resume her reign in the vampire race.


Are the names of the characters in your novels important?  How and why?
I pick all my names from a giant baby book I have or from online baby name sites. I usually think of a letter for the name and then search say all the ‘t’s and look for a name with a meaning of the main characteristic of that character. It makes it more fun for me and though no one knows my ‘evil name plot’ it amuses me.

Does travel play in the writing of your books? Well, not exactly travel in as far as my personal traveling to locations but I research all of my locations. I like to do research so I look up everything from places, food, clothes, etc. It helps me learn about new places and makes the reading more interesting in my opinion.

What do you find most rewarding about writing?
I like the creative outlet that it gives me. Much of my writing comes from dreams I have. I dream a concept and then have other dreams about various sequences within the book. I often wake up at 4am and have to write. I also lay in bed before falling asleep just dwelling on it and come up with some great ideas so I have a pen and paper next to the bed for that. Sometimes, hubby gives me a great concept for a story and then I just run away with it. That’s the case for the story I’m working on now. Sometimes I get stuck in the middle but then when the floodgates open, look out! LOL!  

What does your significant other and family think of your writing career?
Well, this is a tricky one without offending others but I have to be honest. My hubby is my biggest supporter. Like I said, he gives me ideas, reads my books, buys them (encourages me to buy others’ books I need to feed my starving readers brain), etc. He tells me all the time how proud of me he is and reminds me when I’m down how far I’ve come in reaching my goal to be a writer. On the flip side, my parents (which I’m very close to) don’t really seem to care. They have never read any of my stories (and they read a lot-sometimes 4 books a week). My mother claims it’s because they are about vampires and she’s not into that genre. My dad has said he’s proud of me but gives me crap about not making millions on them. It’s frustrating. I love them but they don’t support me, I feel so I’m at a loss with them and don’t bring it up much anymore.

Tell us about your favorite restaurant.
My hubby and I seem to be foodies. We watch all the cooking and food shows. We love to try new things, places, food, etc. On the cooking shows, they spoke about using bone marrow. I already have a hard time with eating food off a bone so it grossed me out. I said I’d ‘never’ eat it. Well, we went to a critically acclaimed chef’s restaurant, Lolita by Michael Simon and it was on the menu. He ordered it and I was still skeptical but he talked me into trying it. I have to say, it wasn’t as bad as I thought and it was actually pretty good. I wouldn’t eat it every day and it is an acquired taste but it was good.

Who is your favorite author?
My favorite author is also the woman who inspired me to write about vampires. I was writing romance, bored to death with it and uninspired. I have had a fascination with vampires since I was a child but it wasn’t until I read an Anne Rice book that I decided I should write about these vampires that I’d grown to love so much over the years. As far as my erotic books, Christine Feehan was my additional inspiration after reading Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty series. Ms. Feehan’s books were amazing and took my imagination to places I had never thought I’d be able to put out on paper.

Do you have a favorite quote, quip, or saying? What is it?
“I often paint self-portraits for it is I that knows myself the best”-Freida Kahlo
It reminds me to look inward at myself as that’s where everything in my life comes from.

After this book, what is next? 

I already have a story I’m working on, temporarily called The Forsaken One.

Meet Author Jodie Pierce....

This week I will be hosting the amazingly talented  Jodie Pierce....
Today we will be introduced to her and learn a bit about her work....stay tuned all week for book information, chapter excerpts and more!! 


Jodie Pierce is thirty-seven years old and lives with her hubby, John in Cleveland, Ohio along with four beautiful step-children. She has had a fascination with vampires since they were introduced to her as a child and has had a long history with them. It wasn't until she started reading the Anne Rice vampire books that she was truly inspired. She was an exchange student in Brasil in high school so you can find some of her experiences from there in her stories. Many of her stories have historical or researched facts as she also enjoys research and learning about new places. She has published five short novels(Eternal Press), a short story in "Midnight Thirst 2", an anthology(Melange Books), has two self-published books and has several short stories that she still works on. She's always busy with the next great vampire story as her mind is non-stop and even plagues her dreams.

Interview With Wancy Ganst

I am super excited to bring you my darling friend Wancy Ganst and introduce you to her AMAZING cookbooks!! They are sooooo easy, all microwave cooking!! I love it and they are not what you think....they are all gourmet, easy to create meals!! Tons of healthy vegetarian choices too!!



Tell us about your cookbooks...

There are 2 main series of my vegetarian cookbooks, the difference is just one using vege meats and one without.


What is vege meat?

Vege meat is also called meat analogue, meat substitute, mock meat, faux meat, or imitation meat. It is made from tofu, soy protein, gluten, mushrooms, etc, or mix of them, and with flavours added to make the texture and taste like real meat.


You might think it is strange that why vegetarians would eat something 'fake'?

Well, vege meat is not purely for vegetarians. Sometimes, vege meat is for meat-eaters rather than vegetarians. For example, when having meals with meat-eaters, as vegetarians, you do not cook real meat but according to etiquette, you might not just cook vegetables, then vege meat can be a kind of substitute. And for some new vegetarians, who might not get used to eat vegetables only, then consuming vege meat might be helpful to them during the 'transaction period'.


So, you are vegetarian? When and why you become a vegetarian?

Yes, I am a vegetarian and there are several reasons. First of all, I have a weak stomach - I always have stomach-ache, my doctor suggests me to consume more vegetables and less meats - that's what I got used to for many years. And we have heard something like 'our Earth is sick' also for years already. In 2010, I have heard about 'Meat-Free Monday', I thought, as my diet was to consume vegetables more than meats, and if eating less meat can help supporting the environment protection, it's no harm to do so. Therefore, I started my 'Meat-Free Monday' and found that not just I am fine with no meat consumption and I am healthier. So, finally, I decide to become a vegetarian, and that's why almost all my cookbooks are vegetarian.


Other than the cookbooks focus on using vege meat, have you published other books?

Yes, I have totally 20 books published until now. Eighteen of them are cookbooks mainly in 2 series - 'Vegetarian' and 'Meat?-Not-Meat!', and one cookbook about cooking konnyaku, which is also called konjac, is high-fibre and almost zero-calories, so that it is a very popular diet food in Asia. And the remaining one is about hand
diagnosis.


You only write cookbooks that using microwave oven, do you know how to cook in traditional way? Who is the audience for your cookbooks?

Yes, I do know how to cook using gas, but I still prefer using microwave oven – you can use microwave oven to steam, stew, braise, stir-fry, pan-fry, grill, roast, bake… Once you hear the sound 'ding' from your microwave oven, you know your meal is ready or you can proceed your next cooking step. And during the food is cooking in the microwave oven, you can work with other stuff, it helps to save my time.


And using microwave oven is only one of the cooking methods, learning how to cook with microwave oven doesn't need to give up one another. In fact, you can learn one more cooking method and utilize it to make your cooking easier and faster. So, there should have no limitation about who to read them, and I can think of lot of potential audience - the ones, who like to cook, who need to cook, who want to cook but don't know how to cook or no time to cook, etc. However, I would highly recommend my cookbooks to the people, who are beginners in cooking. As you know, to make people feeling interested and building confidence in something, first of all, this thing should be simple and easy to get success, and the recipes in my cookbooks would not fail them.


What compelled you to write your cookbooks?

After being a vegetarian, I have heard lot of people said that eating only vegetables is boring. However, vegetarian cuisine can be as tasteful as the other cuisines with meat. Therefore, I review my cooking notes that I jotted down before and convert them into microwave and vegetarian versions, such as using vege meat to replace real meat, and at the same time, I started creating my own and new vegetarian cooking notes. As the result, there become a kind of collection... then that's the beginning of my life in cookbook/recipe-writing.

What is your biggest challenge in writing your cookbooks?


Wow! Everything is the biggest challenge! First of all, time is one of them, we all only have 24 hours a day, but there are lot of other things needed to do, and writing cookbooks is really time-consuming. For example, when there are ideas coming up in your mind, you need to experience them, measure the amount of ingredients to be used, fine-tune the steps and write them into formal recipes. Sometimes, if you failed at the first time, then you might need to have adjustment and try again.


Also, presentation of my dishes is another biggest challenge. I only simply noted down the cooking steps before, but the pictures of my dishes are needed to be put in the cookbooks. Therefore, how to make the dishes look tasty and presentable is important, and the techniques in taking photographs are also required. I try to learn how to present the dishes and what angles to be taken can make the dishes look better by seeing the pictures in other cookbooks and food magazines. It is another time-consuming process, but when I look at the pictures and the dishes look good - that really makes me happy, and my hard-working isn't wasted!

What is your biggest challenge in self-publishing your cookbooks?


Doing marketing or promotion of my cookbooks. I think that's not just to me, but to all self-publishing authors. We all have no budget to hire professional marketing team to help us in marketing, so we need to do it by ourselves. Frankly, I am still learning and experiencing what are the good ways to do book marketing and promotion.


What is your biggest fear about writing your cookbooks?

No one likes them! Would you? ;)

Chapter Excerpt: 
Slums like these were commonplace. But, he didn't pass through them  in order to tempt fate. He did it because he viewed humankind a certain way. It was neither welcoming of his existence nor rejecting of his presence. He had never once encountered trouble. The people of that sector were too absorbed in their own survival.

 Drake noted the piles of fly-infested garbage  and the stacks of rotting wood. The paint had peeled abundantly from  the walls of many of the buildings, making them look naked and bare. The faces that gazed longingly at him were thin, sallow, weak.

 The gloomy sky crowned the poignant scene, magnified by dark, incessant clouds.
 A man of undetermined age lounged towards Drake. He grinned, his teeth a nasty yellow, cracked and decaying. His clothes hung in sordid tatters from his emaciated body and he reeked as if he hadn't bathed in years. Drake eyed him. The man returned the gaze expectantly.

" Money?" the man croaked.

 No, no money. Drake shook his head. The man persisted. Don't push your luck, buddy. Drake moved away. The man followed him.

" Money?"

" For?"

" Food." The man's smile vanished. He regarded Drake with imploring eyes.

 Drake stopped. Several others came forward, their hungry eyes opened wide at the sight of the well dressed stranger. Slowly, Drake pulled out his wallet. In a deliberate and measured way, he counted out thirty dollars.

" Here."

 The yellow-toothed man gripped the bills in his grubby hands as if they were precious jewels. Drake nodded at him. The man slunk away. No word of thanks, huh? Drake shook his head and walked on.

" Mister." A small boy gripped his arm.

Meet Author Murasaki Hideki - Author of - 'When Darkness Falls'

Today we are going to meet an awesome woman with a story to tell....welcome to the blog Murasaki Hideki :) I am thrilled to meet you & hear about your book, 'When Darkness Falls'....


Author Bio:

Murasaki Hideki found her true passion when she was nine. She wrote her first book then, followed by another inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings when she was 13.

At the age of 18, Murasaki became the youngest published author in her family. She has written more than ten books which she hopes to publish in the near future. Her current book "When Darkness Falls" is for sale on Amazon and a wide range of other booksellers.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
